Before buying a hot tub I urge everyone to try the tub first in a show room. Unless you go into a detailed conversation with a dealer who gets your measurements, your needs, or asks you questions like the ones on our hot tub quiz, I would not even think about purchasing a hot tub. Most dealers all say they have the best hot tub anyway. If you think you are going to get honest advice from a shady salesperson who is doing their best to get you to buy their hot tub before you hang up the phone, you are in for a big surprise. No matter what you say, they are probably going to recommend their brand. And, if you call another dealer and try to find the right size hot tub, they are going to say that theirs has the perfect contour for your body and will tell you every reason why the other competitor hot tubs don't.

If you call a dealer, find out the types of questions they ask you about seating arrangements.
Do they ask how many people are going to be in it? Do they tell you the depth of the water to expect. Do they give you scenarios on seating location preferences? Some seating arrangements are more comfortable than others. Do they measure the length from your waste to your upper back? Some seating arrangements make the back more prone to hunching over. Sometimes you get air in your shorts and you end up floating away if the seating arrangements and jets aren't placed right for you.

In a properly arranged seating arrangement for you, you should be able to sit COMPLETELY RELAXED IN THE SEAT and have the water cover your shoulders. If the hot tub doesn't contour your body right, you might have to extended your feet and stretch in an awkward position just to get your shoulders under the water. It's not comfortable to sit like this just to "try" adjust to the hot tub. The tub should adjust to you.. not you to it. You should also know if the hot tub is high enough so that when you want to cool down you can at ease.

If you are buying it for a family or for you you and your loved one, a dealer should get the measurements of you and them. Most dealers only talk about you and your needs. If they start talking about the needs of others, there is a more likely chance that you will have to call them back with that other person and there goes that instant sale on the phone for them that they are looking for.

There is so much competition out there that many people start calling several hot tub companies and end up just buying at impulse from the brands they think are good. A dealer I approve of will NOT try to make the sale on the first call. Just like when buying a car, you don't just go to a dealership and buy the car that you want. You get information on it, you do research on it, and make sure you want to invest in it even if it is the best. Sometimes, the dealer can be telling you about the best for your needs and if the hot tub is not your priority for your budget at the time, you might want the second best.

So, know your seating types before buying a tub. The power of the jets are only as good as the seating types. If you are taller or shorter, the jets that normally hit your shoulders might hit your upper back instead. Please let me know on my quiz so you don't end up buying the wrong type of seats.

Important: If your seat has too many jets and has only one pump, be very cautious!!!
If they say 30 or more for one pump you know you might have to be even more concerned.
Beore you ever soak in a hot tub and I don't care if the dealer says no, just walk out but if they let you, do not buy a hot tub unless you sit in the seats dry before taking the wet test. If you don't like the seats dry you aren't gonna like the seats wet soon or later. Most of the high end tub stores have dry tubs and the majority of them are wet and won't even bring it to your attention to let you sit in the seats dry. For those that are positional intolerant, this is very important to get in and find the right seating arrangment. Most people are about 25 inches from their shoulders to their butt. Some people who are shorter will feel the jets differently and the seating differently, especially lounge type seating, totally different. What is comfortable for one person might be very uncomfortable for a taller or shorter, or wider or narrower person.

Lounge or sit -
Not everyone can be happy with a lounge seat. Most people that call me are overweight and simply float when they lay back in the lounge seat tubs. Fat is lighter than water and those people that float when they lie back will usually float. It is similar to floating on your back in a swimming pool. If you aren't the type that floats then you might want to get a lounge seat. If you must get a lounger type seat, make sure it is not too inclined and the legs incline some and it has good lumbar support. Lounge seats are good if you want to include more leg massage with the rest of your body. It is even more important to have jets that fit your body type when getting lounge seats.

As the legs need more water pressure to go deeper into the muscles, the jets must be bigger than the non lounge type set ups. Some types of lounge jets are smaller on some lounge seats. I really appreciate a deep tissue massage and if I don't like the pressure of the leg jets then I am not interested in anything else from that tub. Many of the tubs I have found have the pressure to spread out and not focused and the ones that are too focused aren't comfortable too. Before ever getting into the hot tub business, at the gym I would always have my favorite seat. This one seat had a different feel than the other jets. It wasn't that it was stronger, it was more focused. Some people like spread out pressure for more surface area and most people like a more focused pressure, especially if buying a therapeutic type tub.

Hybrid Lounges VS True Lounge Seats:
There are pros, cons, and other sacrifices to each.
A wet test is almost mandatory to really know the differences and not just for a few minutes. Depending on how positional intolerant someone is, some people prefer one type over the other.
Some tubs are more stretched out so certain body types float out of the seat and some don't. (Fat is lighter and makes people float, just so you know). Some people need a freakin seat belt!

Master Seat Concerns
I want to know how many seats are there that have the same everything as the master seat. I also want to know how the power is split up. I do not want to share the horsepower from my motor with another master seat. Having two good seats is not what I want. I want one excellent seat for me and that is what I am paying for.

So many hot tub companies try to sacrifice motor expenses and add so many jets to make it look like the experience is what I want. It doesn't matter to me if the engineering is perfect but the tub doesn't have expensive enough motors to power it.

If you take my hot tub quiz, I can help point you in the direction of what type of hot tub you would want to research. I don't sell hot tubs and am not a dealer. Unless I say this, people think I work for a company and trying to sell them my brand or someone else's brand no matter what the answers to their quiz is. I am not here to sell. I know most people aren't used to this.
