Most of the hot tubs I have tested to that I approve of as far as power and comfort that are cheap are also the ones that are the least energy efficient. Some tubs have a lot of friction and the motors aren't balanced or the construction of the tub makes the-- user feel its a great tub but can use double the energy. I want to know ahead of time how much electricity the hot tub uses for the jets and how much it costs for that particular tub to maintain its temperature year round.
There are many factors that can make one hot tub cost as much as 3 times as much in electricity drainage to run.
The biggest factor is how much amperage it draws. If one tub is x amount of PSI and another delivers the same PSI per jet and all have the same amount of jets, one tub can cost more due to the motor and wiring. Some wires and motors draw more amperage to deliver the same power and other motors are geared down to deliver more power with less electricity.
Note:Using a cover the geographic location in the country really has little effect on how much the heater needs to be on to keep the tub at a desired temp. With normal use, (3 to 6 times a week) to maintain 102 temperature year round runs on average $25.00 dollars. When the tube is drained and cleaned or first set up the first month it should double. If using higher amperage motors or higher horsepower, or a 20 amp or higher hot tub, expect to pay more. Although 15 amp hot tubs are not the most powerful, they also don't cost as much to operate.
